5.) Q: What is the standard size for a U.S. Flag?

A: There is no such thing as a standard size; however the most common size is the 3x5' flag. This is the size that is most appropriate for use with a pole off of the side of a house. In terms of flag size as related to an in-ground flagpole, a good rule of thumb is that the length of the flag should be between one-quarter and one-third the height of the flagpole. For more information on this, please see our Flag Size Chart.

6.) Q: How long can I expect my flag to last?

A: Many factors affect the lifespan of a flag. Chief among them are wind conditions, flag location, frequency of flag use, UV radiation, and rain/snow. Given these many variables, it is impossible to predict how long a flag's useful life might be.

Custom

1.) Q: What are the differences between screen printed, appliquéd, and embroidered flags?

A: Screen printed flags begin as a blank flag which then has the images printed onto it using special inks designed for UV resistance. Screen printing is ideal for large quantity orders or orders which have extremely complex artwork. Screen printed flags have a minimum order quantity of six pieces.

Appliquéd flags also begin as a blank flag. Additional nylon is then sewn down onto the flag and hand-trimmed in the shape of letters, numbers, or other artwork. This type of flag is ideal for indoor or outdoor use and can be economically purchased as a single flag or in quantities.

Embroidered flags are created using only stitched thread on a blank flag. This process is generally used on smaller sizes of the U.S. flag for the stars, when large computer controlled machines sew many flags at the same time. It is a very expensive process for custom flags and requires longer lead times.

2.) Q: What is the average size for a corporate logo flag?

A: The average size for a corporate logo flag generally depends on two factors: whether the flag will be flown on its own pole or underneath the U.S. flag, and the size of the U.S. flag currently being used. If the corporate flag will be on its own pole, it should be the same size as the U.S. flag flying next to it. If the corporate flag will be flying underneath the U.S. flag, it should be one size smaller than the U.S. flag. For more information on this, please see our Flag Size Chart.

3.) Q: What is the difference between a flag and a banner?

A: A flag is finished with heading and grommets and can be flown off of an in-ground flagpole as well as off of an angled house pole. A banner is finished with a pole sleeve which is designed to be slipped over a pole. A banner can be flown off of a house-mounted flagpole or can be hung vertically with a pole or rod at the top. The vertical application is usually more common indoors.

4.) Q: What is the difference between a single-reverse and a double-faced flag?

A: A single-reverse flag reads correct on the front side and has the mirror image on the back side. This is the most cost-effective way to make a flag and also keeps the flag lighter, which allows it to fly in light breezes. Ninety-five percent of all flags are made this way.

A double-faced flag is essentially two flags sewn together, usually with a liner in between to prevent shadowing. It reads correct on both sides. A double-faced flag does not fly as well in light breezes due to its weight, and is more expensive than a single-reverse flag.
